What is Fashion?

Fashion is our concern every day. Even people who say they don’t care what they wear choose clothes every morning that says a lot about them and how they felt that day.

Changes in clothing often occurred during periods of economic or social change, such as in ancient Rome and the medieval Caliphate,

followed by long periods of no significant change. In eighth-century Moorish Spain, composer Ziryab introduced Córdoba 14-remarkable source-15 to a refined style of dress based on the seasonal and everyday fashions

of his native Baghdad and modified by his inspiration. A similar change in fashion followed the arrival

of the Turks in the Middle East in the 11th century, who introduced clothing styles from Central Asia and the Far East.

Who defines fashion?

Musicians, actors, and other cultural icons have always influenced our outfits, but so have political figures and royalty.

Newspapers and magazines reported on what Hillary Clinton was wearing.

The recent death of Diana, Princess of Wales was a blow to the fashion world where her dress made daily news.

In the early 17th century, people turned to fashion magazines to see the latest styles

. Women and tailors outside the French court relied on sketches to see what happened.

The famous French king Louis XIV said that fashion is a mirror. Louis himself is known for his style,

which tends towards lace and luxurious velvet.

Fashion is an endless popularity contest.

High fashion is the style of a small group of men and women with a certain taste and authority in the fashion world.

The rich and the status quo, shoppers in major department stores, editors of fashion magazines,

and writers are all part of haute couture (“haute couture” in French).

Some of these expensive and often complex designs can win and become fashionable for most people. Most remain courses.

Learning about popular fashion is nearly impossible. No one can explain how the short skirts and boots worn by teenagers in England in the 1960s hit Paris runways,

how blue jeans became so popular in America, or how hip-hop hit the streets of the Bronx. Haute fashion shows in London and Milan.

It’s easy to tell what’s hot when you watch sitcoms on TV: crop tops and tracksuits at 90210, baggy pants on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. But fashion direction relies on individual

“plug-ins” to respond to events and trends in music, art, and books.

“From the point of view of the history of costume, it is clear that the clothing of each period was perfectly adapted to the current climate,

” said James Laver, renowned British costume historian. How did flared jeans fade into 80s designer jeans and boots and a 90s baggy look? No one knows.
